The Mediation Effect of the Third Person Effect among Psychological Factors, Distortion, Riskiness Factors and the Intention of Regulation of Suicide News Reports

|
Suicide news report guidelines 2.0 that presented by the Ministry of Health and Welfare should regulate suicide news reports through the mediation of the third person effect. The purpose of this research is to analyze not only 538 respondents¡¯ psychological factors such as self-esteem, depression, involvement (cognitive and emotional), the effect of distortion and riskiness suicide reports on the third-person effect but restricting suicide news report factor¡¯s presuming and confirming processes as a dependent variable. Furthermore, self-esteem and depression factors were analyzed by dividing the levels of high and low with independent sample t-test. The third-person effect, mediation factor itself was analyzed by paired t-test. Step-wise regression analysis was conducted to presume the mediation effect and Sobel-test examined the mediation effect eventually. The result of the research is that the respondents showed perceived media bias toward distorted suicide news reports so that they thought the regulation of suicide news reports was necessary. Specifically, this research provides theoretical foundations on health related policy with sticking to the perspective of health communication.
